The highest train of France
From Saint-Gervais, the Mont Blanc Tramway climbs 12.5 km through forests, alpine pastures, and
glaciers to reach the Nid d’Aigle at an altitude of 2,372 m—a vertical ascent of nearly 1,800 m
achieved in exactly one hour.
The view changes with every turn, and the arrival overlooking the seracs of the Bionnassay Glacier is well worth the trip.
- Mountaineers use it as a springboard to the summit.
- Others take the tram for the journey itself and the spectacular arrival.
- In winter, it provides ski-in/ski-out access to the Les Houches-Saint-Gervais ski area.
Allow between 3 and 5 hours for a full excursion to the Nid d’Aigle, longer during peak season.
The various stops on the Mont Blanc Tramway:
- Le Fayet — 580 m
The starting point on the Arve Valley side. Free parking, dining options, wheelchair access available (2
wheelchairs max per train).
- Saint-Gervais — 850 m
The other departure station, more convenient if you’re coming from downtown. Bistro, gift shop,
luggage storage.

Also allows you to arrive in Saint-Gervais from Le Fayet
- Montivon — 1,400 m
A stop in the heart of nature, for those who want to shorten the approach hike.
Not accessible to people with reduced mobility.
- Col de Voza — 1,600 m
The first major stop along the line. A snack bar on site, hikes accessible to everyone in summer,
ski slopes within easy reach in winter.

- Bellevue — 1,800 m
The view opens up to take in the entire mountain range. A restaurant and a picnic area for lunch
in the shade.

- Nid d’Aigle — 2,372 m (summer only)
The terminus. At the foot of the glaciers, with the Nid d’Aigle mountain hut where you can grab a bite to eat before or after a mountain hike.
Official starting point for hikes to the Tête Rousse and Goûter mountain huts.

The Mont-Blanc Tramway is one of the must-do experiences
in the Mont-Blanc region.
Though historic and modernized, it has lost none of its charm.
It takes you up to the peaks and lets you marvel at the Bionnassay Glacier from its base.

2026 Rates:
- Free for children under 5 with valid proof of age; available only at the ticket counter.
- 50% discount for people with disabilities and their companion; available at the ticket counter upon presentation of valid proof.
- The Mont-Blanc Unlimited pass is accepted without an additional ticket.
Hours
- Departures daily starting at 9 a.m.
- Trains run once an hour, every 30 minutes during peak hours.
- Le Nid d'Aigle is open during the summer season only.
- Return tickets can be purchased directly at the arrival station.
- Schedules are subject to change depending on the weather; always check before you leave.
How to get to the Mont-Blanc Tramway:
- From Le Fayet
Free stadium parking lot with 200 spaces, about a 10-minute walk from the train station.
- From Saint-Gervais
Three free parking lots in the area, including one directly across from the train station.
Free Facilibus shuttles are available from downtown and the parking lot at the Alpin gondola station.
The Little Extras :
- Each of the four motorcars has a name and a color: Marie is blue, Anne is green,
Jeanne is red, and Marguerite is white and red—the colors of the department
- Walking there and taking the train back is a real option—the trails between
Bellevue and the Col de Voza are magnificent and well-marked
- The luggage storage service in Saint-Gervais (€6/day) lets you hike light without having to
lug around your travel bag
- In winter, the TMB offers a unique way to access the Les Houches–Saint-
Gervais ski area from the Col de Voza
