The black leather sofas, the sparkling chandeliers, and the colorful ceramic tiles leave me in awe.
I settle in, admiring the wallpaper featuring the queen of this place: Isabella Straton, a wealthy English mountaineer who married her Chamonix guide. Magnificent! This 72-room hotel was opened by her grandchildren and is today a living piece of the past.
Lost in my daydream, I feel, out there in front of the tulip garden at Place du Poilu, as if Isabella were strolling by—charismatic in her high heels, barely concealed by her long dress, her gaze fixed on her passion: the mountains.
