You want me to tell you, I didn’t dare go to the Castel, in Les Praz de Chamonix. I imagined the place as a small “castle”, stuffy and not cheap! Well, I was wrong! I went there for lunch on the terrace and had the chance to visit the breathtaking hotel-restaurant! It is Robin himself, “the lord” of the place, who revealed to me the secrets of this authentic chalet. A dream location, a refined menu, but which does not ruin you, and an unusual decoration. In short, I’m under the spell and I’m going to tell you my 3 reasons!
# 1 The sumptuous setting
There is a mountain in Chamonix that I particularly like because it seems so enigmatic: Les Drus.
So going to the Village des Praz is always a magical “trip” for me. I have often passed in front of Le Castel, this hotel-restaurant entirely renovated, between La Flégère, La Chapelle des Praz and the golf course. But to stop there, it was a different matter!
And then one day, although neither a golfer nor a “noble”, I went to have lunch in this small castle of Les Praz. And what a nice surprise! Curiosity is a good thing! And ridiculous preconceived ideas.
Installed on the terrace, in the sun, I had a magnificent view of the Flégère and felt the peace of the green setting in front of the restaurant.
The friendly welcome immediately put me at ease. Finally I was in my place. No fuss, no muss, a table accessible to all in an incredible setting. Let’s talk about the menu, a place like this should make your wallet lighter… Well, the second nice surprise: not at all!
# 2 The bistronomic menu and its quality-price ratio
I immediately noticed the lunch formula. Starter + main course or main course + dessert at 23 € or 3 courses at 28 €!
Frankly it is very correct! The Chef Jérôme Aubignac, works with several local products such as pink trout from Haute-Savoie and meats from the Challonges Farm.
But what to take? Everything looks so appetizing. I finally fall for the 2-course formula with the filet of sea bream and a surprising dessert, the strawberry-fennel tart! These are bistronomic plates that arrived. Well presented, refined and hummmm, so tasty! I am conquered!
The service is continuous. You can enjoy a Savoyard speciality, a gourmet menu at 39 € or even a Savoyard board to accompany the aperitif! Not to mention the famous pâté en croute of the chef, to share!
# 3 The decoration that immerses you in history
Blessed with my discovery of the Castel, I smile stupidly, coffee in hand and eyes riveted to the breathtaking view of the Mont-Blanc!
Robin, the young owner of this incredible hotel-restaurant invites me to discover the interior of his chalet-castle in the heart of the mountains.
Classy rococo decoration, this charming hotel plunges you into another time, an unsuspected universe of the Chamonix valley.
An unusual night
I love history, so a crazy idea came to me. To come dressed in a beautiful renaissance dress and climb the stairs of the Castel to my room of yesteryear.
Open the window and breathe in the fresh air from the panoramic balcony overlooking the peaks. Then I’ll take a bath in the pretty baroque bathtub. Uh, Robin, you wouldn’t happen to be organizing a theme party, would you?
Anyway, just because we live in the valley doesn’t mean we can’t have a night at the Castel. The experience is so exotic. Between us, to celebrate a wedding anniversary or to please your friends, it gives me ideas…
Events and privatization
For any other event, if you wish to have lunch or dinner at Le Castel, there is a space adapted to each request. For a romantic dinner for two, the cosy Castel space, indoors or under the pergola, will preserve your privacy.
As for large groups, they are installed in the Castel folie, a name that says it all…. The same, indoors or under the heated pergola.
Les plus du Castel
- The green space in front of the hotel-restaurant which will delight the children or allow beautiful group photos.
- The free parking of the Flégère ski lifts nearby as well as the one behind the hotel.
So, what are you waiting for to reserve a table? Or maybe you just want to spend the night? What could be more unusual than sleeping in a hotel in your own valley? And what’s more, it’s sumptuous! And if you don’t live here, then organize your stay at the Castel, and you’ll leave the Chamonix valley with your eyes full of stars!
